Below (and above), we see the wild Dustin in his natural habitat. 

I couldn't decide which portrait I like better so I posted both. Deal with it.

Below you will find the difference between what a reflector does and doesn't. 

Up next are the many faces of Dustin. 

I got some paparazzi silhouette shots. Because I said so. 

And these next two are a little out of focus because I'm legally blind in one eye.

Dans les Coulisses

Here are some behind the scenes photos of a project I'm doing with Hal Stead. Hal is teaching online guitar lessons and has hired me to increase the production value of his videos. On his own, Hal went from a one camera set-up with him on his couch to a two camera set-up with a black backdrop is his garage. I am giving him a three camera set-up with a white backdrop.

I tried two different lens and cameras for this assignment. ...Yes my iPhone 5S was one of the cameras... Surprised? But the other camera was my Nikon D300. On my iPhone I used olloclip's 4-in-1 lens adapter with the 15x macro lens. And on my Nikon I used my snazzy new Sigma Photo 300mm lens with a lens adapter.

In case you didn't know... Valentine's Day was on Friday and I got proposed to by my boyfriend (of course I said 'yes'). So here's the ring. It's a Scott Kay sterling silver, princess cut, diamond ring.

No, I did not blur out the foreground or background in these photos to add more emphasis to the ring. This is the real compression and DOF that the iPhone olloclip gives me. I think it adds attention and focus on the main diamond. It's very tight and keeps your eye right where I want it. That is, on my ring and not my hardwood floor.  

Because of this tight crop and closeness of the ring it makes the ring look bigger than it actually is.

Well my Beemer and I were looking to tear up some asphalt so we drove out to the deserted land of Nevada and when I saw this out my front window I pulled over and snapped this photo:

It's no road to Area 51, but it sure was about as desolate as the road to Area 51. I was driving off into the sunset and honesty I shouldn't be allowed to drive... I started to space out and I drove myself another couple miles before realizing that I was the only living human out there. Yes, I meant to saying "living human" because when I stepped out the car to take the picture it smelled like death... like.... legitimate dead people. And yes, I do know what dead people smell like. It's very distinct. 

I pulled over, got out of the car and the wind brushed against my face and brought me the raunchy smell of decaying carcasses. Then I walked halfway across the road, sat down on a yellow dash and took a deep breath. Then I pulled out my big DSLR with it's huge, long lens attached to it and took a picture. I put the camera on my lap and said "I'll be back" and simply got back in my car, turned around and headed home. I never finished the end of the road. But I shall return.  

Large Histoire

I'm editing a veteran's story on video. She rambled a lot and didn't tell her story in any particular order. One minute she's talking about grade school and the next minute she's saying she's gonna finish her days at the Southern Utah Veteran's Home, which is in Ivins.

She treated some Korean patients while she served in the military. The sticky note that's in focus tells the story about how she met a guy named Sik Lee. Lee stepped on a ground mine and his legs got blown off. The lady I'm interviewing treated Lee. She later met the president of Korea and received a presidential citation. She continued to care for Lee but was then sent to care for other patients around the world.

She got her private flying license while serving in the military. She thoroughly enjoyed her service and it took her 18 years to write down all the stories and memories she gained from being in service. 

Her name is Lt. Col. Carolyn Reinbold, USAF Retired. 

I'm editing her video memoirs to be sent to the Library of Congress. But first I need to rearrange all the stories. These are my sticky notes that serve as an outline. 

Pousse Large: Autour de la Ville

I bought myself the ōlloclip 4-in-1 lens awhile ago and I never thought I would actually use it...  But today on my way to the fabulous land of a money saving/sucking corporation - Wal-Mart - I found myself suddenly needing to break out the iPhone lens adapter and try to complete this "Shoot Wide" assignment. 

So here's what I saw on my way to Wal-Mart. It's called the Tabernacle.

I think that the little town of St. George was founded with good hardworking men and women who did things the right way - to the best of their knowledge with the technology they had then. In this photo (below) you can see the city corner stone, a statue of a working man and that tabernacle thing. The red bricks of the tabernacle match the surrounding red rocks.

After my distraction with the tabernacle I finally made my way down to Wal-Mart. And this is what caught my eye (below). A week from this over-commercialized holiday, I see that all the crappy, cheesy and overpriced heart-shaped chocolate boxes and the red and pink bears are gone. What's left behind is a sad reminder that society thinks their mate is gonna enjoy some cheaply made pointless thing from their local Wal-Mart. 

Now, let me explain to you that this shelf was not like this two days ago. - Yes, I go to Wal-Mart that often. It's sad. I don't know how to work a shopping list. 

There was stuff everywhere on these shelves. Fully stocked. With prices below and all. Scary prices.

Then when I got home from Wal-Mart I saw this sunset (its not much, I know). I like how there's birds sitting on the telephone wire enjoying the sunset with me. And if you look closely enough you can see a shooting star. - So... maybe it might be an airplane but can we just pretend that airplanes in the evening sky are shooting stars because I could really use a wish right now.
